Our story
Two years ago, Tyra set out on a mission. As a mother and a seasoned professional with 30 years of experience in the performing arts, she dreamed of finding a musical theater program that could help her daughters grow their confidence. However, she knew how quickly the world of performing arts could become toxic- stifling creativity and damaging self-worth. When she couldn’t find a program that aligned with her values- a place that celebrated originality, nurtured self-esteem, and encouraged kids and adults alike to truly be themselves- she decided to create one herself.
Starting from the ground up, with the unwavering support of her husband, Tim, and her children, Tyra brought the Academy to life. Together, they built not just a stage to showcase the beauty of the performing arts, but also a space safeguarded from the negativity that too often overshadows it. With two years of dedication and hard work, The Cleveland Academy of Performing Arts has become what it is today. It is a beacon of hope for White County, offering a safe and supportive space where students can thrive, build confidence, and discover the joy of doing what they love.

Our team
Tyra McGinnis
Founder/Director
With over 30 years of experience as a performer and teacher, Tyra is a classically trained vocalist who has built a successful career in music, theater, and education.
She has performed in many different styles and genres, working with students of all ages and skill levels. As the director of CAPA's musical theater program, Tyra uses her training in singing, acting, and dance to help students grow as performers. She also provides one-on-one coaching in voice and audition preparation, giving her students the tools they need to succeed.

Tyra has performed on both stage and film all over the world. Her experience includes work on documentaries for the United States Navy and The Discovery Channel. She has trained and performed with well-known theaters and performance groups in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Atlanta.
As a Navy Veteran, Tyra has had the chance to learn and perform different styles of music and theater from around the world, which makes her teaching style special and full of variety.
Tyra’s unique background and professional expertise create an unparalleled teaching style that inspires and empowers her students to shine.
Gabi McGinnis
Student Teacher
Gabi is an advanced vocal student with over 8 years of experience performing & training with various instructors and professionals from New York to Atlanta. She is an integral part of CAPA helping to build and implement our award winning program from a students perspective.
Gabi provides assistance and mentorship for younger students enrolled in group classes. With her help and encouragement students not only develop their skills but also begin to understand the concepts behind them.
With her training and experience, Gabi is the perfect choice for a student mentor. Encouraging young students to gain confidence and take the first steps toward reaching their dreams and building a strong foundation!
Her achievements include participating in a large variety of stage productions with various school and community programs. Professional vocalists with 2 years experience performing live for both public & private events. Founding member of Pitch Perfect, an elite vocal group performing professionally throughout the region.
Austin Morgan
Media Production
& Voice Instructor
Austin is a U.S. Army Veteran with a Bachelor's Degree in Media Production and over 25 years of professional experience. Throughout his career, he has worked with renowned organizations such as CNN, the NFL, and Netherworld, specializing in media operations, production, and special effects
With expertise in digital operating systems, editing platforms, and camera operation, Austin provides students with a comprehensive understanding of every aspect of TV and film production. His hands-on approach equips aspiring creators with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the industry.
In addition to his media expertise, Austin is a classically trained vocalist with experience spanning genres such as Chamber Choir, Musical Theatre, and Opera. As a CAPA voice instructor, he combines theory and practice to deliver impactful training tailored to all ages and skill levels. His advanced knowledge and professional experience as a male concert vocalist offer invaluable insight, fostering the professional growth and development of male voices in particular.
Sudie Crouch
Creative Writer
For over 18 years, Sudie Crouch has been helping clients craft impactful marketing and advertising strategies.
As CAPA’s Creative Content Writer and Creative Writing instructor, Sudie brings a wealth of experience in radio, print, and digital marketing. Through her boutique marketing firm, Words For Hire, she has provided clients with high-quality content, including press releases, blogs, and other professional writing services.
Sudie’s collaboration with CAPA offers students the unique opportunity to learn from a seasoned writing professional. Her expertise allows students to explore creative possibilities both in front of and behind the camera, inspiring them to unlock their full potential as storytellers and creators.
